Is Ghostwriting Illegal? What about academic writing?
Updated: Sep 13, 2020
Ghostwriting is not illegal.
Getting another person to write your academic content or thesis is plagiarism. Plagiarism is like academic fraud.
Getting back to legal Ghostwriting, it is important to enter into a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDR) with your Ghostwriter.
The NDR will cover:
I. Purpose and Scope
The purpose of this NDR is to clearly identify the roles and responsibilities of each party as they relate to the service provided.
II. Copyright, Confidentiality, Intellectual Property, and ISBN Numbers
The copyright will be owned by YOU, and you will be named as the author.
The Ghostwriter will not be entitled to any royalties.
The content of the book and all communication will be treated as confidential.
YOU will own all intellectual property resulting from the Ghostwriting process.
The ISBN numbers will be applied for by YOU.
III. Terms of Payment and Timelines
IV. Research
The Ghostwriter or YOU shall provide any research that may be necessary for the content of the book.
